Public Health and Wellness Offers Free Nicotine Patches to Seniors

Tuesday December 23, 2008

Stop Smoking Classes Offered Throughout the Area

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 22, 2008) The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is now offering free nicotine replacement patches to people age 60 older who enroll in Cooper/Clayton stop smoking classes throughout the area. The free nicotine replacement patches are being offered through a grant by the Kentucky Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA).

The Cooper/Clayton method to stop smoking is a 13 week program that includes weekly support group meetings combined with use of nicotine replacement patches.  While the classes are free, most of the classes require that participants purchase their own nicotine replacement patches. The KIPDA grant will now provide free nicotine replacement patches for course participants age 60 and older.

Cooper/Clayton classes at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and at the Park DuValle Community Health Center also provide free nicotine replacement patches to qualified participants of any age.

Below is a list of Cooper/Clayton stop smoking classes. The date listed is the start day of the 13 week course. Registration for the program is required. To register phone 574 – STOP (574-7867).
