With Victory Park as a back drop, Councilman David Tandy (D) 4 today updated the public on progress made regarding his Clean Alley Initiative.
“More than half of the alleys we targeted last year are in the process of being cleaned up and repaved,” said Tandy. “We are now looking to finish the remainder of those alleys in the coming year.”
In the FY 2007 Budget, Tandy appropriated $57,000 for alley paving and cleanup. The initiative also included $50,000 for 105 permanent trash receptacles to be installed in 12 different neighborhoods of the district area.
The last of the trash receptacles was being installed on Tuesday in the California neighborhood. The first of those were in Victory Park.
“We have seen a great deal of cooperation with residents who have seen our efforts and are keeping their neighborhoods clean,” says Tandy.
The first round of alleys, seven were in an area west of downtown. The remaining four are in the east end of the downtown.
Tandy has also announced the Fourth District Clean Team will be again asking young people to join and help keep the community clean. The Clean Team will work on various projects through out the summer.
