For years residents of Fairdale have made a commitment to maintaining a branch of the Louisville Free Public Library despite tough economic times and challenges with space and equipment. Now, a new state-of-the-art library has been proposed and the time has come to learn more about it.
“It is important that everyone see this proposal for the new Fairdale library which will replace what we now use in the Fairdale Playtorium,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13). “This innovative approach to our needs is a win win situation for everyone.”
The hearing will take place at the current Fairdale Library, 10616 W. Manslick Road, beginning at 6:30pm on Tuesday, June 8th.
The Mayor’s proposed FY 2011 Budget calls for $2 million for the library. It would be a state-of-the-art facility modeled after the Newburg Branch opened in 2009. The new facility will have double the spaces of the current facility and more computers. It will be built on land owned by Metro Government just northeast of the current branch.
“This is great news for all of those who use and support the Fairdale Library,” says Welch. “Please come and add you input and ask questions about this project.”
