Public Health & Wellness and Area Children to Hold Walk on the Waterfront 2007 on Thursday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 8, 2007) Approximately 1,000 schoolchildren will join several hundred Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness Department staff members Thursday morning for Walk on the Waterfront 2007. 

Public Health and Wellness Director Dr. Adewale Troutman and School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Daeschner will lead the walk. Members of the University of Louisville’s CARDSfit and mascots such as the Texas Roadhouse Armadillo, Louie the Lightning Bug, Churchill Charlie, and the Delta Dental Molar will also be on hand.

The event will be held Thursday, May 10th and will begin in front of the Public Health and Wellness Department at 400 E. Gray Street at 11 AM.

The group will walk from the Public Health and Wellness Department to the Kennedy Bridge in Waterfront Park and will then proceed along the Ohio River to the Great Lawn on the two-mile walk. Walk on the Waterfront, which began in 1998, recognizes the work of public health and encourages walking as a healthy habit among children and adults. Walk on the Waterfront is a Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement event.

Elementary school children from the Health Promotion Schools of Excellence will participate in Walk on the Waterfront 2007. Participating schools include Dixie, Eisenhower, Foster Academy, Hazelwood, Medora, Shacklette, Wellington, and Young.
