In 1934, a group of dedicated individuals got together in Jefferson County and decided service to their community was an investment in the future. On Saturday, October 31st the Derby City Fraternal Order of Eagles will commemorate that special occasion.
Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) will be on hand to salute and thank the Derby City Eagles for all those years of service.
“I am so excited to be a part of such a rich historical celebration of Fraternal Order of Eagles 75 years in the South Louisville location,” says Welch. “I am very proud and honored to have been invited to share this exciting night with the Derby City Eagles.”
Elwin “Bud” Haigh, Grand Aerie Trustee, Glenn Groebli, Southeast Regional President will join Welch as speakers for the event along with 150 members of the Derby City FOE The celebration will get underway beginning at 6:00pm at the Derby City Aerie, 201 Outer Loop in Louisville.
The festivities will honor all Derby City members with more than five years of service. The aerie will also serve as scrapbook of sorts with displays of pictures over the last 75 years of the FOE chapter from its beginning to present day.
There are some 400 members of the Derby City FOE. In the last three years, members have donated more than $17,000 to local charities and groups including the Crusade for Children and Fairdale High School.
“They are to be commended for their charity work in the District 13 Community as well as Louisville Metro as a whole,” says Welch. “I look forward to meeting more of the FOE members and celebrating with them on Oct. 31.”
