Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social At Riverside, The Farnsley-Moremen Landing

Tuesday June 26, 2012

The entire family is invited to enjoy a day of fun on the banks of the Ohio River as Riverside, The Farnsley-Moremen Landing hosts the 11th annual “Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social”, July 8 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The historic property is located at 7410 Moorman Road.

The event features live music from the Mac Daddies and Old School, and several activities for kids, including miniature train rides, pony rides and a farm animal petting zoo. Visitors will also be able to participate in an archaeological dig underway on the Riverside grounds, take discounted tours of the circa 1837 Farnsley-Moremen House, and browse through the Friends of the Southwest Library book sale.

A highlight of the event is the Ice Cream Eating contest! Ten children and six adults will be selected to compete. Prizes will be awarded in the children’s contest for “fastest eater”, “messiest eater”, and “neatest eater”, while the adults will vie for the “first to finish” award!

Concessions to include: Ehrler’s ice cream in great old-fashioned ice cream flavors; Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, serving up ribeye steak sandwiches, cheeseburgers, beef dogs, french fries and more; and Louisville Dessert Truck, offering cake, cookies and other sweet treats.

Admission to the event is free, but some activities will require the purchase of a ticket (train rides, farm animal petting zoo, pony rides and tours of the historic home).
