Contact: Tony Hyatt 574-4137/526-3622
Councilwoman Judith Green (D-1) is encouraging the community to come out for a discussion about Water and flood Protection involving MSD and $11 million in federal stimulus money.
“This is an opportunity to find out how the stimulus funds will be used to protect and improve our community, “says Green. “It is also a chance to learn more on how MSD will be working to solve some of our long range flooding problems.”
Green along with The Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (KAARAP) will host a discussion with Bud Schardien of MSD on Monday, October 26, 2009, beginning at 6:30pm at the NIA Center, 2900 W. Broadway.
“The Metro Council is currently reviewing the flash flooding that took place on August 4th,” says Green. “We have already learned that MSD is on course to review the buying of homes in flood plan areas and more improvements in drainages system as part of the federal consent decree on storm sewers. This discussion will let the public now how the federal money could impact those plans.”
KAARAP has begun a review of all ten areas of the Louisville at Work program coordinated by Metro Government. Workforce training was the first area reviewed. These forums are a way to let the public understand how the stimulus money will impact the local economy.
“I hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity,” says Green.
