Riverside to host ice cream social July 12

Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing is pleased to announce its 7th annual "Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social" on Sunday, July 13 from 1- 5 p.m. The public is invited to bring the entire family out for this day of fun on the banks of the Ohio River! Visitors can enjoy the sounds of the Rigbys from 1-3 p.m. (Beatles music) and 8 Track Factory from 3:30 – 5 p.m. (Seventies favorites) while the children take part in old-fashioned games, miniature train rides or watch a magic show. Other activities include: discounted tours of the Farnsley-Moremen House (built circa 1837), pony rides and horse-drawn carriage rides. At 3 p.m. ten lucky contestants will participate in an ice cream eating contest. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: fastest eater, slowest eater, messiest eater and neatest eater.

Ehrler’s is providing ice cream concessions featuring great old-fashioned flavors. Other food vending provided by the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association featuring ribeye steak sandwiches, cheeseburgers, beef dogs, french fries and more!

Admission to the event is free. Some of the activities will require the purchase of a ticket (train rides, carriage rides, pony rides and tours of the historic home). Please call 935-6809 for more details. All are invited to enjoy a relaxing day on the banks of the Ohio.

Directions to Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing from Downtown Louisville: Take I-65 south to the Gene Snyder Freeway West. Follow Gene Snyder Freeway for approximately 10 miles. At that point, the Gene Snyder becomes the Greenbelt Highway. Watch for a stop light. Turn left at the light onto Lower River Road. Riverside is about an 1/8 of a mile on the right down Lower River Road.
