How would you keep yourself from being attacked? What should you know about child predators on the internet? What is the best way to crime proof your house and car?
All of these are important questions and the answers can be found in a series of safety seminars hosted by Councilman Rick Blackwell (D) 12 over the summer and fall of 2008.
“Our own personal safety, and that of our loved ones, is a very important issue to many of us,” says Blackwell. “My hope is these seminars will offer the information needed to prevent some one from becoming a victim,”
The first of the seminars will begin on Tuesday April 22nd and focus on internet predators.
Here is the schedule of the District 12 safety seminars:
April 22nd Internet Predator Workshop: tips to teach your children and what to watch for on line
May 27th Women’s Self Defense: practical self defense techniques and tips on how not to be a target
September 23rd Safety 101: tips to protect your home and car from break-ins, fire prevention and identity theft
October 28th Child Safety: focusing on handling bullies, car safety seats and bike safety
All events will take place the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway starting at 7:00pm.
“I invite residents of District 12 to join other safety minded citizens as we learn to better protect ourselves, our family and our loved ones from harm,” says Blackwell.
To reserve your space for the safety seminars, or for more information, contact Councilman Blackwell’s office at 574-1112.
