Metro Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) has been selected to serve another year as a member of the National League of Cities 2010 Human Development Steering Committee.
“I am honored to again be given the opportunity to serve on such an important committee,” said Welch. “Cities across the country continue to face growing concerns over health, education and jobs and this Steering Committee is vital to helping find answers to those concerns.”
The Human Development (HD) Committee is responsible for the development of policies on employment and job training, early childhood development, TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), unemployment insurances, income support programs, immigration and refugee policy, health and education, equal opportunity, and social services.
Welch hosted the Steering Committee over a weekend last May in Metro Louisville and was able to show her fellow members the success of the South Park TAPP School in District 13. The group focused its attention that weekend on discussions of teenage pregnancy, workforce development and veteran’s issues.
“Being a member of the Steering Committee also keeps us in the forefront as advocates for America’s cities and towns,” said Welch. “Metro Louisville and other cities are dealing with more responsibility in solving these critical issues.”
The Human Development Steering Committee will hold its next meeting in March to begin planning for the coming year.
