Twelfth District Councilman Rick Blackwell today announced the schedule for departmental hearings and public comment on the proposed 2003/2004 Metro budget.

Review of the budget will begin at 3 p.m. Monday with a budget overview and revenue estimate briefing. Subsequent hearings will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and at 9 a.m. every weekday from Thursday until Wednesday, June 11th.

All hearings will be held in the Council Chambers, Third Floor of City Hall, 601 West Jefferson St.

In announcing the schedule for hearings, Blackwell, chairman of the Appropriations Committee, also announced that the committee would hold two public hearings to gather input from the community on budget priorities.

“The importance of community input on this budget cannot be underscored,” Blackwell said. “This budget will involve sacrifices and tough choices, and it’s imperative that the public has an opportunity to weigh in.”

Public hearings are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, June 16th and 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19th in the Council Chambers. Speakers will have up to five minutes each to address the council. Sign-ups for persons interested in speaking will begin one hour prior to each hearing; no sign-ups will be allowed before this time.
