Still Time to Register for 2011 Kilowatt Crackdown

Monday September 19, 2011

Upcoming free resource expo to help improve energy efficiency

Louisville Metro Government and the Louisville Energy Alliance are encouraging building owners and operators to get on-board and join the 3rd annual Kilowatt Crackdown competition. It’s a way to track energy use and ultimately improve the city’s environment.

Participants use the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s free benchmarking tools to track energy use and then make improvements to become more energy efficient over the course of the contest. At its conclusion, a final benchmarking score is submitted to the LEA. Superior performers are then recognized at a special ceremony recognizing participants for greatest improvement and most efficient, in a variety of ENERGY STAR ratable building categories. These categories include office, retail and medical buildings, banks, hotels, churches, K-12 schools and more. In the last two years, more than 220 different buildings, including Metro Government buildings, have competed in the program.

“The smallest change can make a difference for our environment. Participating in the Kilowatt Crackdown could be the first step you take in going green,” Mayor Greg Fischer said. “It’s great for your building’s bottom line and great for our community.”

To assist commercial building owners and managers in achieving their goal of becoming more energy efficient and be competitive in the Kilowatt Crackdown, the Louisville Energy Alliance is hosting a free Commercial Energy Efficiency Expo on October 6. It will run from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. in the Kentucky International Convention Center’s Cascade Ballroom. The expo is a great opportunity to meet with experts on energy efficiency and learn what products and services are available. If you are interested in participating, exhibit space is still available.
