Councilman Bob Henderson will join local school, community and health officials to dedicate a ½-mile community walking path, work-out stations and playground at Wilkerson Elementary School, 5601 Johnsontown Rd. The dedication will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at the walking track on the school grounds.
During the program, the entire school will walk the track together, and Dr. Adewale Troutman, Director of Health for Metro Louisville, will speak to the students about health and fitness.
The project is a partnership between the school, PTA and matching funds from Councilman Henderson's Neighborhood Development Fund for the 14th District.
The dedication comes in conjunction with Wilkerson's Celebrity Reading Day, in which local "celebrities" read to each class. Participants include Councilman Henderson, state Rep. Charlie Miller, and members of the Jefferson County Board of Education, among others.
