The Shawnee Neighborhood needs volunteers to come out and help clean things up on Saturday, August 23rd. The targeted areas: West Broadway from I-264 to Shawnee Park and Muhammad from I-264 to the Park.
“This is a chance for the community to help us with a key goal of improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “We encourage all neighborhood watch and block watch clubs in the Shawnee area to come out and join us.”
Hamilton and the Shawnee Weed and Seed Neighborhood Restoration Committee are coordinating the clean-up which begins at 8:00 am at French Plaza, 234 Amy Avenue. Volunteers will be treated to a light breakfast and then head out to start the clean-up which will go on from 8:30am to 11:00am. Lunch will be served from 11:15am to 12:15pm.
“This is a chance for residents in the area to learn about The Shawnee Weed and Seed Committee,” says Hamilton. “Although not recognized as an official Weed and Seed site yet, so far, we have made an impact, in fighting crime, helping families in the area of education. Now we hope to clean-up this community one street at a time.”
Clean up bags and gloves will be provided to the volunteers and those who would like to eat lunch, should contact Melvin Bethel at 551-1109 by August 21st.
“This is a chance for the neighborhood watch groups to learn more about Weed and Seed,” says Hamilton. “We are just getting started and the more we spread the word the fastest we can make an impact.”
