Louisville – Councilman David James (D-6) is partnering with the Metropolitan Sewer District to host an informational meeting on the proposed voluntary buyout program for property owners in the Maple Street area because of flooding problems.
“I am sure there are many questions as to how this program will work and who will be eligible for a buyout of their property,” says James. “There may also be questions about the time table for purchases.”
The meeting will be held at the Eastern Star Baptist Church Family Life Center, 2400 Howard Street beginning at 6:00pm. Representatives of MSD will be on hand to talk about the buyout program.
Maple Street’s problems came to the forefront when flash flooding occurred in August of 2009. Since then, MSD has been working toward a buyout program to relocate residents of the flooded area. MSD now has local, state and federal funds available for the buyout which is estimated at $9.7 million dollars.
“I want to encourage residents of the area to come out and ask questions and get updates on what is going to happen next with this program,” says James.
