When the Metro Council meets on February 14th, a very special person will be honored with the Third Annual District 3 Community Spirit Award.
“I am recognizing Mary C. Cooper for her endless volunteer work in the community,” says Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D) 3. “It is very hard to find people who will commit their extra time to one, short-term, volunteer act. But Mary Cooper has given years of volunteer service to many on-going programs.”
As a resident of the Dr. William Weathers Sr. Building in District 3, she coordinates all activities of the building as a volunteer. On call 24-hours a day, seven days a week, she assists residents with medications and schedules. She conducts fire drills, bingos, Movie night and Bible Study.
She was a Foster Grandparent for 4/12 years at Frazier Elementary School and a tutor. She also served as a volunteer tutor at Coleridge Taylor Elementary school for two years.
Mary Cooper volunteers at four nursing homes and sits on the Elderserve/Oak and Acorn Focal Point Advisory Council and is a member of Southern Star Baptist Church.
“As a community, we are thankful that Mary Cooper does so much to make life better for others,” says Woolridge. “She sets a good example for all of us to follow.” The Louisville Metro Council meets at 6:00pm in Council Chambers, 601 West Jefferson Street.
