It’s a time to celebrate the holiday season. A time to look back over the year gone by and the accomplishments and contributions made for the good of all. It is a time for unity and pride which is the goal of the First Annual West Louisville Holiday Festival.

“There is no better time than the holiday season to remind us how fortunate we are as a community,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “This Holiday Festival is the idea of many groups who are working together as a way of showing everyone that we are united in spirit and in purpose.”

Hamilton, along with Council members David Tandy (D=4) and David James (D-6), will join the West Louisville Business Association, The Louisville Urban League, the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, the Catholic Enrichment Center, Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center, Home Depot, neighborhood groups, churches, civic and social organizations as hosts for the event.

“We do not come together often enough to show the community that unity and purpose are not impossible,” says Tandy. “This festival will give many in West Louisville the opportunity to see what can be done when we work together.”

The West Louisville Holiday Festival held on December 17, 2011 at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage (1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.) from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm.

“This celebration is being held at a place that marks our history and reminds us of our past accomplishments, “says James. “This is the time to have fun and celebrate as we look to the future.”

The West Louisville Holiday Festival is a family oriented event and will include; free pictures with Santa, Christmas stockings, entertainment provided by local neighborhood groups, churches and/or schools, a holiday dessert buffet provided by West Louisville caterers/bakery’s, Santa’s workshop provided by Home Depot, Healthy Holiday cooking demonstrations, Health screenings, door prizes, a food drive and H.U.G.S. (Hats, Umbrellas, Gloves, Scarves) for the holidays.

Long-time West Louisville business owner Charlie W. Johnson of Immanuel Realty will serve as this year’s Honorary Chairperson.

Hamilton, Tandy and James are providing “Welcome to West Louisville” Holiday pole banners on the Broadway Corridor, from 9th Street to Shawnee Park and W. Market Street.
