One of Louisville beloved neighborhoods will once again hold a traditional celebration as a way of showing pride and tradition this Saturday, August 28th. Councilman Deonte Hollowell (I-6) and the California Neighborhood Association invite everyone to California Reunion Day at California Park.
“This is a great way to come out and get to know the people of a great neighborhood who want to have some fun on a summer weekend,” said Hollowell. “It’s a chance for old friends to make new friends.”
The 14th California Reunion Celebration will kick off at 12:00pm and continue to 10:00 PM. Entertainment begins at 5PM with the up-tempo beats of the River City Drum Corp, vocalists T. Maffee and Hip Hop/Neo Soul Artist, D. Mawl & the Incrediblzs, Joe Leavell With One Purpose Gospel and finally, the soulful Unlimited Show Band.
The Reunion celebration will feature food and craft vendors along with a huge 3 obstacle course inflatible for the children. Hollowell is the prime sponsor of the event. California Park is located at 16th and St. Catherine Street.
There will also be an activity completing a special mural in memory of former Councilman George Unseld. California residents and others will be able to leave their fingerprints on the mural from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Nationally known artist, William Duffy began the mural this summer and it will hang in the California Community Center. Residents will be able to leave their fingerprints on the mural symbolically like the way Unseld touched so many lives.
“This will be a very special day and I hope everyone will come out and enjoy the fun and fellowship,” says Hollowell.
