Louisville – Councilman David James (D-6 joined Mayor Greg Fischer and officials with the United States Tennis Association on Tuesday for the formal dedication of five new tennis courts located in California Park.
“I want to thank the Mayor and Metro Parks for making this project a priority for the residents of this neighborhood,” said James. “I am always happy to take part in events that give our young people more opportunities to play organized sports. They build character, help teach team-building skills and keep them in good physical condition.”
Thanks to a grant from the USTA, four new courts are available in California Park that will help encourage participation in the Organization’s “Ten and Under” tennis program. The grant has also funded the renovation of a court for adults. These new courts are available to the public as well.
The Councilman also highlighted the positive impact these court renovations will have on the young people of the neighborhood.
“The children in our neighborhoods need more positive things to do during the day like play tennis and basketball, instead of listening to the negative voices that will lead them down the wrong path. I’m proud to have worked with the USTA and others to make this dream a reality.” said James.
California Park is located at 1104 South 16th Street.
