Louisville – Councilman David James (D-6) joined officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Second Division on a safety and information walk around the Victory Park neighborhood on Wednesday, May 29th.

“Our goal will be to let residents in the area know that LMPD will be out enforcing laws and promoting crime prevention as we approach the coming summer months,” says James. “Summer time with warmer temperatures is the time where crime will be on the increase and we want residents to know, laws will be enforced.”

James will be joining Major Bill Kristofeck, Second Division Commander and officers of the Division’s Impact Unit. James and the officers will walk the neighborhood passing out important information on the enforcement of drinking, gambling, firearms and drug laws in the Victory Park Area.

“With this new effort LMPD hopes that this can become a family park, one that parents can feel good about letting their kids visit to play,” says Kristofeck. “Officers will not be in cars but will be on foot, on bikes, or on ATV’s because they want to be able to talk to people in the community and not be in a car away from the people.”

The Councilman plans to use Neighborhood Development Funds to pay for additional overtime for officers on bike patrol in the area during the summer.

James has been successful in using NDF’s to fight crime. In 2011, a similar effort by 4th Division LMPD Officers was successful in curbing a crime wave in the Old Louisville area.

“Public Safety is a top priority and in the case of Victory Park we want everyone to know we will enforce the law and take care of those who break it,” says James.
