When Mayor Jerry Abramson and Metro Government set up shop at the Sun Valley Community Center in February at least three Metro Council members will be on hand.
“This is a great opportunity to come out and make ourselves available to any one who has a question or a problem in government,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D) 14.
On February 19th, the Mayor’s Community Conversation will get underway at 6:30pm at the Sun Valley Community Center. Henderson will be joined by President Rick Blackwell (D) 12 and Councilwoman Vicki Welch (D) 13.
“We have always had big crowds whenever the Mayor comes to the Valley Station area,” says Henderson.
The three council members are encouraging residents in their district to take advantage of the event.
“This month, I will be holding my District Dialogue at the Mayor’s event,” says Blackwell. “I will talk with anyone in District 12 and if I can not solve a problem, we will find someone who can.”
Mayor Abramson began the conversations when he first took office in 2003. Once a month, the Community Conversation travels to a different location of the city. All agencies of government are represented as a way of answering questions and explaining services offered by the city.
“The Mayor has shown that government can be responsive to the people,” says Welch. “These events have also given me a chance to help District 13’s residents because you can put a human face on what some might wrongly think is an uncaring bureaucracy.”
The Sun Valley Community Center is located at 6505 Bethany Lane.
