Louisville – The new Commander of the Louisville Metro Police’s Third Division will be on hand to introduce himself to residents of District 12 on Tuesday, October 16th.

“I have invited Major Jim Harper to our next District 12 Dialogue so that he can introduce himself and get to know the people of the district,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell. “I believe it is important for all of us to meet the man responsible for protecting our streets and homes.”

Major Harper is a 22 year veteran of law enforcement having served in both the old Louisville Police Department prior to merger in 2003 and LMPD. He served in the former Fourth and Sixth Districts and Street Crimes Unit and Gang Squad. After merger, Harper served in the First Division and Special Operations Division before becoming Commander of the Sixth Division. He has also commanded the Seventh Division and Narcotics Division.

“Major Harper has served on two different task forces to address violent crime in Metro Louisville,” says Blackwell. “I believe residents will want to hear his vision and goals for this area when it comes to public safety.”

The October District 12 Dialogue will be held at the Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway beginning at 7:00pm.

Joining Councilman Blackwell and Major Harper will be representatives of LMPD, IPL, MSD, and Congressman John Yarmuth's office to answer constituent questions as well.
