It is a chance to clean up the community and a fund raiser all rolled into to one.
“This will be our fourth spring Clean-up Okolona and every year its gets better and better,” said Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24. “I think we have come up with a good way to help many of the groups that want to keep Okolona clean.”
The 2007 Clean-up Okolona will be held at Southern High School in the north parking lot on Saturday May 19th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
While making Okolona cleaner, any 501-C3 organization has a chance to raise money while joining others in keeping the streets of Okolona. The group that brings the most volunteers will receive the top prize of $750. The second prize is $500. And finally, $300 will be awarded for third.
“We will split into teams and then get to work,” says Flood.
After the clean-up, the Councilwoman will host a cook out for the volunteers to thank them for a job well done.
Also joining in the 2007 Spring Clean-up Okolona are Metro Louisville Brightside, Waste Management, MSD, The Kentucky Department of Highways, the Okolona Business and Professional Association, Miejers and Walmart.
To register your group, contact the office of Councilwoman Madonna Flood at 574-1124. Groups can register up to 9:30 am on Saturday, May 19th. All members of the group must sign-in on clean up day in order to be counted toward the prize money.
“We are looking forward to a fun day,” says Flood.
In the event of rain, the clean-up will be on Sunday, May 20th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
