Louisville – Children and parents in the Okolona area are invited to a special dedication ceremony at Blue Lick Park on Saturday, October 21st.
“I look forward to this special dedication because it is good to see playground equipment back at the park so that kids can be kids,” says Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24. “I am very excited about it.”
Blue Lick Park is located at 4114 Mud Lane and the ceremony will get underway at 1:00pm. Flood and Mayor Jerry Abramson will cut a special ribbon to formally dedicate the new playground area.
A few years ago, playground equipment at the park was removed because it was outdated. Since then more than $50,000 has been spent to put new equipment in the 27 acre park.
“We have a master plan for this park which is one of three neighborhood parks in our areas,” says Flood. “Eventually, we hope to have the basketball courts resurfaced and a walking track for those who want to exercise.”
The new playground equipment features a Playbooster Playstructure which includes a small rocket climber, loop ladder, two saddle spinners, various slides and a play bench area. The new equipment also includes a handicap accessible stationary cycler.
“I appreciate the Mayor’s effort to help us make this park a good, safe place for kids,” says Flood.
The park also provides a community gardens area for residents. It was relocated there from the Smyrna Road area in 2005.
Blue Lick Park is located on Mud Lane between Blue Lick Road and Preston Highway.
