Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D-24) has accepted a $750 check from the Louisville Federation of Retired Fire Fighters and Louisville Professional Fire Fighters, Local 345 as part of the 2009 “Doing Our Part From the Heart” campaign”.
“I want to thank all of the firefighters for their generosity,” says Flood. “This is yet another example of how firefighters work to help others.”
The money will be used to help cover the cost of shipping 400 boxes of personal items to soldiers overseas. Flood accepted the check at the Local’s office at 400 Bakers Lane during a retiree’s dinner.
“We feel as professional fire fighters we should support this great cause,” says Louisville Retired Firefighters President Greg Dearing . “We are protecting our community locally and they are protecting us overseas and we should help make their lives just a little bit better. We should share our wealth to help them.”
The 2009 Doing Our Part Campaign could still use $1,000 to cover the remaining shipping costs. Donations to help can be made at any branch of Republic Bank. Personal items will also be accepted for shipping to the troops.
