Louisville – With Spring just around the corner, gardeners are getting ready to cultivate another season of growing fresh vegetables and healthy eating.

Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) will be on hand for a special open house on Saturday, March 9th by the People’s Garden as the group gets ready for a second growing season at 44th and Bank Street across from the Shawnee Golf Course.

“There was such a good response last year to the community garden and this open house is a good way for anyone interested in gardening to learn more about the People’s Garden, sign up for a gardening plot and learn about New Roots Fresh Stop CSA Shares,” says Hamilton.

The open house will get underway at 1:00pm and run until 4:00pm at the Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse, 460 Northwestern Parkway.

Joining Councilwoman Hamilton and officials with the People’s Garden are the Shawnee Neighborhood Association Youth Advocates, Fresh Stop, Kentucky State Extension, Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center, Catholic Enrichment Center, 15,000 Farmers, and Whole Foods.

“In West Louisville we have started many programs and initiatives to get people eating healthier and gardening is just one way to stay motivated,” says Hamilton. “So if you have not used your green thumb in a while then come out and join us.”
