Public meetings on Charlie Vettiner Park, Mahoney Property master plans October 11
Thursday September 30, 2010
Metro Parks will host two public meetings on Monday, October 11, to discuss future plans for Charlie Vettiner Park and the 95-acre Mahoney Property, which was purchased by Metro Parks in 2007. The meetings will take place at Farmer Elementary School, 6405 Gelhaus Lane, just north of the Gene Snyder/Billtown Road interchange.
The meetings will be the second in a series to develop master plans for both sites. From 6 to 7:15 p.m., discussion will center on the Mahoney Property master plan, with the Vettiner Park plan to follow at 7:30 p.m..
In addition, Metro Parks is seeking photos, old newspaper clippings or any other additional historical items residents may have relating to both properties. Residents are encouraged to bring these items to the October 11.
Citizens who can’t attend the meeting will be able to take part in the planning process by visiting the Metro Parks website, where they can offer online feedback, sign up for an e-mail notification list for announcements of future meetings, and see conceptual plans as they are developed. About the parks:
Charlie Vettiner Park is a 283-acre park located on Mary Dell Lane off Billtown Road in southern Louisville Metro and includes an 18-hole golf course, hiking trails, a fishing lake, dog run, disc golf and more. Metro Parks purchased the estate of Mae Mahoney, whose family called the property Twin Meadows, in December 2007. The property has yet to be developed but Metro Parks is looking to develop it for multi-use recreational purposes. The property is located near Bardstown Road off the Gene Snyder Freeway.
