City seeking images that showcase what’s special about Louisville
What makes you proud to be a Louisvillian? That’s the question Mayor Greg Fischer is wanting people to answer with images during the city’s first-ever photo contest, open to participants of all skill levels.
“Louisville is a very special place with unique neighborhoods and attractions and we want people to capture that,” Fischer said. “Whether it’s on an iPhone or a Nikon, we want people scouring the city and taking cool and fun photos – show us what’s special about your neighborhood or street. This is the people’s photo contest and we want to get lots of images with people in them.”
There is no cost to enter and participants may submit up to 10 images. There are both adult and youth (under 18) categories. The deadline for entries is Friday, May 10.
Within the broad theme of what makes you proud to live in Louisville, examples of subjects may include landscapes, landmarks and iconic places, action shots, friends, animals, abstract images, sports and special events. Fischer noted that Louisville contains nearly 400 square miles and many hidden gems, neighborhoods and landmarks that rarely show up in photos.
The top winner in the adult and youth category will receive a prize package including items such as a weekend stay at the Galt House Hotels, passes to the Louisville Zoo and Metro Parks golf courses, tickets to Louisville Bats games, a gift card from Quest Outdoors and more. Winners will also have their image(s) displayed on the official Louisvilleky.gov web site and Mayor Fischer’s Facebook page and may be used in the Mayor’s weekly newsletter or other city issued publications.
The photo entries will be judged by two local professional photographers, Bill Luster a free-lance photographer who retired in 2012 after many years with the Courier-Journal, and Jamie Rhodes whose photography clients include the Kentucky Derby Festival and North Healthcare.
