For a third year, Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) will continue to be a part of planning transportation strategies for America’s future needs. He has been reappointed to serve on the National League of Cities 2011 Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee.
“As the President has recently mentioned in the State of the Union message, America must pay some serious attention to infrastructure.” said Johnson. “This work is challenging for the NLC as many cities have used federal stimulus money for various projects but there is still a great deal of work that must be accomplished.”
Developing policy on transportation issues, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads and ports is the primary function of the Transportation Infrastructure & Services (TIS) Committee
Johnson continues to advocate light rail for American cities.
“California is in the process of moving forward with a system that are commonplace in many areas of Europe,” says Johnson. “We need to get people use to the idea that there is a better and more economical way to travel.”
Johnson says he will continue to work with NLC committee members in an effort to bring good ideas back to Metro Louisville.
