District 9 residents invited to final neighborhood meeting on Brownsboro Road Pedestrian project
Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D) 9 announces the final Neighborhood meeting to hear discussion of the Brownsboro Road Pedestrian Access/ sidewalk project. The meeting will take place from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the United Crescent Hill Ministries, 150 South State Street on Wednesday, May 14th.

Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D) 3 will travel to Johnson Middle School to get a first hand look at how school children learn about the arts with the help of Actor’s Theater of Louisville.

Flood set for Okolona Spring Clean-up on Saturday May 17th
Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24 is calling for volunteers to rally on Saturday, May 17th when this year’s Okolona Spring Clean-up gets underway. The Clean-up begins at 10:00am. Volunteers and their groups should meet in the parking lot of Southern High School. Groups and teams will be picking up trash and debris along Okolona’s streets and parks.

Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced that the increasingly popular Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike & Bike events will continue in 2008 with the first set for Memorial Day, May 26, beginning at 10 a.m. at Waterfront Park.

Brightside Awards NatureScape Beautification Grants
Brightside awarded NatureScape grants to area nonprofit groups for a variety of beautification projects today. A Boy Scout Troop, an elementary school and a senior citizens home were among the 10 NatureScape grant awardees.

“Movies under the Stars” premieres at Iroquois Park on Saturday night
A fun night of family entertainment will kick off on Saturday, May 10th when “Movies under the Stars” returns to the Iroquois Amphitheater for the summer. Council members Marianne Butler (D) 15, Dan Johnson (D) 21, Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13, Rick Blackwell (D) 12 and Mary C. Woolridge (D) 3 have appropriated the funds for five films to be shown at no cost the community

Diabetes Classes Being Offered by Public Health & Wellness
Individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes are invited to attend a series of three classes being offered by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. Classes begin Wednesday, May 14 at the Center for Health Equity, 2422 W. Chestnut Street.

Henderson invites the public to “Old Time Field Day”, take a trip back in time Saturday, May 10th
Back in the late 1800’s, Jefferson County’s farmers did not worry too much about high gasoline or diesel prices when it came to plowing fields. Like many farmers across the country, they relied on animals to do the needed work. On May 10th, the public will get a chance to relive that part of America’s rural heritage when “Rush & Jessee’s Old Time Field Day” gets underway in District 14.

It is a seminar every woman should be aware of and take advantage of; a chance to learn how to keep safe at home, work and play. “We had many phone calls last year from women who wanted to attend but couldn’t,” says Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24. “I promised to make this available again this year to those who wanted to learn how to be safe.”
