A Tribute to Dottie Priddy

Former Representative Dottie Priddy passed away June 30, 2008 in Louisville. Representative Priddy, a Democrat, was an outspoken member the Kentucky General Assembly from 1969-1990, and was known for her often paradoxical views and her dedication to her district. Her colleagues praised her as a true leader, negotiating ways for county and city legislators to work together and share revenue at the time of merger and annexation. She was also known for the more colorful aspects of her career as a legislator. In 1975, she was arrested at an anti-busing demonstration, and later admitted to carrying a concealed weapon with her throughout the ‘70s. Despite this, she was admired as a determined and passionate legislator, with an ability to bring people together and as someone who stood by her beliefs and those of her constituents.

After her service in the General Assembly, Rep. Priddy was elected to two terms on the Jefferson County School Board in 1998. She spoke out against the proposal to undo the methods of school integration, arguing that all the school board’s hard work would be reversed. Her colleague Joe Hardesty praised Priddy saying "Students were her main priority. She's served the community well."

Representative Priddy died at Norton Hospital after a long illness. She was 75.
