Creating a Safety Plan

If you are in abusive relationship or have recently left an abusive relationship, you need to make a safety plan to help protect you from your abuser. A good safety plan can help protect you in your home, at school, at work, and on your daily routes to and from. A safety plan can help protect you from violent episodes if you are not yet leaving the relationship and can help make leaving your partner safer when you are ready to do so.

These are three main questions you should ask yourself when creating a safety plan:

1. What can I do to stay safe in my home?

2. What can I do to stay safe on my way to work or school?

3. What will I do and where can I go when abuse happens?
