The Mayor's Committee on Public Art Accomplishments

This is an abbreviated list highlighting MCOPA’s work thus far. MCOPA has accomplished much with limited resources, and the committee looks forward to developing even greater projects in the near future.

New Projects

  • Continued assistance and support with the Christopher Hauck 2008 Berlin Wall Exhibition
  • Organized the Experimental Urban Art Project which was extensively covered by the press
  • Assisted Louisville Slugger in placing bats along Main Street (ongoing)
  • Assembled a curatorial committee to assist The Frazier International History Museum with the commission of a major new public art work on West Main Street (ongoing)
  • Continued review of external art proposals
  • Successfully executed Flock of Finns project
  • The New Projects subcommittee is currently creating a visionary list of new public art project ideas

Collection Management

  • Cleaned and conserved 14 bronze sculptures in the City of Louisville’s Public Art Collection with nationally-renowned bronze conservator
  • Restored the Louisville Science Center Sculpture by Cork Marcheschi
  • Recast Charlotte Price’s “Pan” sculpture at the Bright Foundry (placement pending)

Policy & Planning

  • Created MCOPA Committee Operating Guidelines
  • Staff commitment of a lead administrator, and a public art assistant/ intern to administer Louisville Metro’s public art program
  • The Policy and Planning subcommittee is actively engaged in researching public art plans and funding mechanisms
