For Making Strides in Transparency
LOUISVILLE (May 27, 2014) – A new system that allows citizens to view online all documents associated with building and zoning cases in Louisville has received a top award from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Planning Association.
The new technology, implemented earlier this year by the Division of Planning and Design Services, won the “Outstanding Use of Innovative Technology” award.
The Legistar system allows staff to increase transparency by making all meeting documents available to the public online. Board, committee and commission actions are available on the website within 24 hours. Legistar has also archived agendas and minutes from 2011 through 2013, making them available on the same website.
Later this year, the city will live stream of board and commission hearings. “Our focus is on technology” said Emily Liu, Director of Planning and Design Services. “Utilizing our new system, citizens and developers have real-time access to data.”
Legistar is the latest addition in the department’s continuing effort to respond to changing technology. Over the past six months, the agency has introduced a new website featuring virtual user guides, shortened online applications and a customer satisfaction survey.
