The goal of the Traffic Engineering Section is to provide the safest and most convenient means of travel to the citizens of the Louisville area, whether they are motorists, pedestrians or cyclists.

The primary responsibility of the Traffic Engineering Section is the operation, maintenance and installation of all traffic control devices, within the public right of way. We are responsible for ensuring the proper use and placement of all required and optional signage and devices. The Section is responsible for ensuring that traffic control devices and signage, placement and installation conform to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, (MUTCD), as required by KRS 189.337 and 603 KAR 0:050.

Traffic Engineering recently developed and implemented a Neighborhood Speed Reduction Program that includes speed humps for residential areas. Traffic Engineering also plays a major role in the planning and implementation of "Quiet Zone" projects, school area traffic controls and all transportation related projects.

Louisville Metro's Traffic Engineering Section is proud of our past accomplishments and looks forward to continually providing quality services to our citizens. Traffic Engineering will continue to develop programs and initiatives to improve the safety and efficiency of our streets and to improve the air quality of the Louisville area.
