Service for residents with Monday collection will resume the following week, Monday, Jan. 23, 2012. 1/6/2012 Reminder: New Collection Routes Start Monday, Jan. 9 A reminder to citizens in the Urban Services District (old city limits) that new 2012 garbage and recycling/yard waste collection routes begin Monday, Jan. 9. 1/5/2012 I-64 Ramp from Story Avenue to be closed temporarily The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will close temporarily the entrance ramp from Story Avenue to westbound Interstate 64, beginning Monday, Jan. 9, in an effort to reduce traffic crashes. After the closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge, the exit ramp from westbound I-64 to I-65 was closed to improve traffic flow where these two routes merge with Interstate 71. As a result, the free-flow traffic condition from Story Avenue to I-64 was changed to a short merge condition. To help with traffic control, KYTC installed first a yield sign and subsequently a stop sign at the top of the ramp. 12/30/2011 Holiday Garbage, Recycling Collection Changes A reminder to residents in the Urban Services District (old city limits) that there will be no garbage, recycling or yard waste collection on Monday, Jan 2, 2012 due to the New Year’s Day holiday. A new exterior stair tower will replace the old fire escape, built during the 1940’s, on the north side of the building. 11/15/2011 Mayor Declares City Ready for Winter Weather Surrounded by members of Louisville’s nearly 300-strong Snow Team and a fleet of snow-fighting equipment, Mayor Greg Fischer announced that the city is ready for winter weather.
The Louisville Metro snow team consists of nearly 300 employees from three agencies---Metro Public Works, Solid Waste Management Services and Metro Parks. It has 169 pieces of equipment in its snow-fighting fleet, ready to treat and clear more than 2,700 two-lane miles of roads.
Several successful components of past snow and ice removal plans are returning this year, including overnight shifts for Public Works crews and the interactive, online snow map. |
