Cooper Chapel Road Bridge to Close for Repair
On Wednesday, May 16, Louisville Metro Public Works crews will close a 100-foot portion of Cooper Chapel Road to repair a bridge over Fish Pool Creek that experienced a pavement failure earlier this month. The bridge is located between Preston Highway and Smyrna Parkway (See map - 323KB PDF).
Construction for the $250,000 project will begin Wednesday, and the bridge will reopen to traffic in two months.
The 5,000 vehicles that travel the road each day will be rerouted via Preston Highway, Smyrna Parkway and the Gene Snyder Freeway. Please reference attached map for alternate routes.
The bridge, which city engineers believe was built in the early 1900s, was scheduled to be replaced in 2009 as part of the Cooper Chapel Road widening project. Public Works crews will construct a new bridge that is compatible with the future widening project.
