City Prepared for Winter Storm

Trucks dropping salt, plowing streets
Mayor Jerry Abramson said today that the city is ready to battle the winter storm currently dumping up to a foot of snow on Louisville.
“Our Public Works crews have been in their trucks all morning, spreading salt to help keep the roads clear,” Abramson said. “They will continue dumping salt throughout today – and into Saturday.”
The city has 129 pieces of snow equipment including salt trucks, brine trucks and plows. In addition, 257 employees from four different agencies coordinate the city’s snow removal efforts. Residents can check their progress in real time by visiting www.louisvilleky.gov and clicking on “Snow Removal Updates”, which highlights which streets have been treated or plowed.
Crews will cover 1,000 miles of roads in Louisville, with special attention to hills, bridges and overpasses. Crews will continue treating the roads overnight to ensure safe travel in the morning.
“As always, we encourage drivers to take extra precautions when the roads are snowy or slushy,” Abramson said. “Take hills and curves slowly, and don’t forget that many side streets and neighborhood streets won’t be treated, so that may be the most difficult part of your commute.”
