Public Works Crews Apply Brine to Roads
“We will be brining all day, as a precaution,” said Ted Pullen, public works director. “We will have a better idea this afternoon if the snow is headed our way – or if it will miss us.”
Brine, a mixture of salt and water, is applied to dry pavement to help keep it from freezing. The city makes it own brine that costs less than two cents a gallon.
Though temperatures are expected to reach the low 50s today, temperatures will dip to freezing overnight. The National Weather Service and other meteorologist are calling for snow beginning 5 to 6 a.m. Friday morning and lasting all day and through the night.
