Section of Sixth Street Closed Overnight Jan. 11th & 12th
Thursday January 10, 2013
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 10, 2013) – Sixth Street from River Road to Main Street will be completely closed on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 11pm- 10am and again on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11pm – 10am.
The purpose of the closure is to place four large structural beams--two 80-foot beams and two 100-foot beams--in place using a 175 ton crane as part of the construction underway for the pedestrian bridge that will cross Sixth Street, linking the Muhammad Ali Center to the Belvedere. All street level access will be restricted to the construction crews and supporting team members. Signs will be posted to alert drivers and pedestrians.
The contractor working on the walkway scheduled the weekend, overnight closure to cause as few traffic disruptions as possible.
Work began in October on the 170-foot long walkway that will provide easy access on foot to many of downtown’s greatest attractions include the Ali Center, the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, the Belvedere and the KFC YUM! Center.
Project managers have been working closely with the Ali Center, the Kentucky Center, and PARC throughout the construction phase to minimize disruptions to performances and special events in the area.
The project is scheduled to be completed early this spring.
