LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 20, 2013) – Wednesday afternoon Metro Solid Waste Management enforcement officers tracked down and notified LMPD to impound a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck involved in illegal dumping.
This is the third vehicle impounded since the Metro Council amended the illegal dumping ordinance last year. The truck is connected to illegal dumping incident at 6702 Lower Hunters Trace in October 2012. The vehicle’s owner, Vincent Madden and M&M Tree Service was also fined $250.
“We have zero tolerance for illegal dumping in Louisville,” Public Works Director Vanessa Burns said. “This sends a message to those guilty of this crime that blights our city. You participate in this type of activity, you will pay the price.”
The Louisville Metro Solid Waste Management Enforcement Unit has been cracking down on illegal dumping across the city, resulting in four recent citations and fines.
“I am glad officers were able to take this action in an area where there has been a major problem with illegal dumping in the past,” Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1) said. “The word is getting out we will not tolerate illegal dumping in Metro Louisville.”
The Illegal Dumping ordinance reads that Metro Louisville will hold the vehicle for six months up to 12 months. This vehicle will be held for six months and will not be released until there is proof that all fines for illegal dumping, cleanup costs and tow lot fees have been paid. Fines can range from $250 to $5000 and clean up fees are a minimum of $250.
The towing fee charged by LMPD is $112. There is also a $13 administrative cost. The Impound Lot charges $13 a day for storage. The initial first day cost will be $138.
In addition to this impoundment three other illegal dumping cases were recently upheld by the Code Enforcement board, for a total of $1,150 in fines
