Compost Bins and Rain Barrels at Truckload Sale

Thursday May 29, 2014

Saturday event is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Louisville Jefferson County Waste Management District, in partnership with Louisville Metro Government, will host a compost bin and rain barrel truckload sale this Saturday, May 31.

The truckload sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 937 Phillips Lane. It will feature Earth Machine compost bins and SYSTERN rain barrels so that residents can turn organic waste into valuable compost and collect rain for use in watering gardens.

Each 1,000 residents who actively compost divert 600,000 pounds of organic waste from local landfills each year. One inch of rain falling on a 1,000 sq. ft. roof harvests up to 600 gallons of rainwater for use on lawns and gardens without turning on the tap.

The truckload sale is an initiative of the Mayor’s Innovation and Delivery Team, funded by a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
