Metro Private Roads

Within the Metro area, we have about 1,500 private roads. These are usually roads that are built for multiple-family dwellings, apartment complexes, condo associations, and mobile home parks. These private roads are not built or maintained by Louisville Metro Public Works.

FEMA will not reimburse Louisville Metro for the cost of collecting storm debris on private roads. However, we are upholding the Mayor’s promise to collect on every street in the community.

In order to make sure we collect proper records for FEMA, we will continue to collect along our regular grid as scheduled. We will NOT pick up private roads during regular collection. S

o if you live in a condo association, apartment complex, or mobile home park, pickup will be later than scheduled by their grid assignment.

Before our crews can collect on private roads, we must have a liability waiver signed by the property owner, condo association or other representative of the neighborhood.

Residents on private roads may pile their debris in the right of way at the intersection of their nearest public road. In most cases, that will be the road they turn off of in order to enter their apartment, neighborhood, or park. That will be picked up on the regular grid collection schedule.

Neighborhood associations may also request a debris dumpster to be dropped off free of charge in their neighborhood. Metro Council members may make the request on behalf of a neighborhood or collection of private streets.
