PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Leaf Drop-off is available to you to dispose of your fall leaf trash. You may deliver your "Bagged Leaves" to the drop-off site, but you must remove the leaves and dispose of the garbage bags.  No brush or tree trimmings will be accepted nor will leaves from commercial operators.

Leaves in the Street:
Under no circumstances will leaves be picked up if they are raked into the street. Residents could be subjected to a fine for littering or illegal dumping.  Street cleaning vehicles try to make an extra run (over and above the 3 per year) down streets in designated areas of Crescent Hill, Highlands, Old Louisville, and Iroquois areas.  However, this is the regular street sweeping equipment and only sweeps leaves that have fallen naturally into the street.  This is done weather permitting.

Welcome to the Louisville Metro
Public Works & Assets Department

Division of Solid Waste Management

We offer a variety of services that make waste disposal both convenient and environmentally sound. We provide garbage, yard waste, recycling and junk collection in the Urban Services District and promote waste reduction and recycling throughout Louisville Metro.  Private waste haulers, regulated by the Metro Waste Management District, provide household waste removal in the Suburban Areas.

We are governed by the Louisville Metro Solid Waste Ordinance (pdf) and enforce the provisions contained therein.  Our division provides direct services to the citizens of Louisville Metro and supports many department, agency and neighborhood functions with our personnel and equipment.

In addition, the department is an integral part of the Louisville Metro Snow Removal Program and is responsible for some 700 miles of roadway in the Urban Services District.

Garbage is collected and delivered to the local landfills. Grass, leaves and other yard waste are collected separately from garbage and delivered to a local compost facility.

Recyclables are collected at curbside in the urban area as well as staffed and unstaffed drop-off sites located throughout Louisville Metro. Items are processed and marketed to businesses that use recycled materials to produce new products.

We hope you find the information contained on this website helpful and take full advantage of our services. Please phone MetroCall at 311 or 574.5000 or Contact Solid Waste if you need additional information.
