Junk Disposal

 Junk and bulk waste collection is provided in several different ways in Louisville Metro depending on where you live. Junk pickup/disposal services in the Urban Services District (formerly the City of Louisville limits,) Suburban Areas, and small cities are offered.

Urban Services District MapFor residents living in the Urban Services District, Solid Waste provides quarterly junk pickup.  To find your four weeks of collection, click on the "My Louisville" button on the top left side of this page and enter your address.  Your weeks will be posted on the left side of the map.

Regardless of where you live in Louisville Metro, you can dispose of the following junk items year-round at the Louisville Metro Waste Reduction Center located at 636 Meriwether Avenue (map it):

Household junk items, tree limbs, and stumps up to 3 feet in diamater, tires, metal waste, household construction debris, furniture and appliances will be accepted.  A fee will be charged according to the size of the vehicle and volume of junk.

Citizens may also hire private firms to remove junk and trash items.  These businesses may be found in the Yellow Pages under Garbage and Rubbish Removal.  Junk items can also be taken to a private landfill or transfer station for disposal.  Click the links on the left to find out more.

Semi-Annual Junk and Bulk Waste Drop-Off

The Division of Solid Waste Management provides an opportunity for twice-a-year junk and bulk waste drop-off for all households in the Louisville Metro area. While this junk drop-off is primarily intended to service residents in the Suburban Areas without regular curbside junk collection, it is open to all residents of Louisville Metro.

The free drop-offs are generally held in April and October of each year. The drop-off is scheduled on weekends each year.  The dates will be posted on the home page Calendar or phone MetroCall at 311 or 574.5000.

The drop off will accept bulky junk items such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, etc. Metal items are separated and recycled, and Freon® is properly removed from appliances.

The drop-off will not accept:

Tires
Propane Cylinders
Fire Extinguishers
Liquids
Hazardous Waste (See Household Hazardous Materials section for more information.)
Computer Monitors
Yard Waste
