Residents of the Urban Services District of Louisville (the pre-merger City of Louisville boundaries) can now sign up by text & email to be reminded of your junk set-out dates. Sign up now! See the press release.

How do you find your junk set out dates?
Urban Services District Map (307 KB PDF File) It's the number one question we receive! There are 4 things you need to know:

  1. Louisville Metro Solid Waste now picks up your junk 3 times a year if you live in the old City of Louisville or the Urban Services District (see map). Residents in this area pay a little more in taxes for this service than residents in surburban areas or incorporated cities.
  2. If you live in this area, click here to enter your address and find your dates and sign up for reminders.
  3. Junk and bulk waste collection is provided in several different ways in Louisville Metro depending on where you live.
  4. If you live outside the urban services district, click here.

Year-Round Junk Disposal
Regardless of where you live in Louisville Metro, you can always take up to three household junk items, at no charge, to the Louisville Metro Waste Reduction Center located at 636 Meriwether Avenue in south central Louisville (locate on a map).

Household junk items, tree limbs, and stumps up to 3 feet in diameter, tires, metal waste, household construction debris, furniture and appliances will be accepted.  If you have more than three items, a fee will be charged according to the size of the vehicle and volume of junk. Only self-dumping vehicles or vehicles ability to utilize equipment to quickly "pull-off" loads will be allowed to dump larger loads at the Waste Reduction Center.

Larger loads, in any vehicle, can be dropped off at Waste Management's Recycling and Disposal Facility at 2673 Outer Loop. Waste Management will charge the same fees as SWMS.

Free Junk and Bulk Waste Drop-Off
The Division of Solid Waste Management provides an opportunity for free junk and bulk waste drop-off for all households in the Louisville Metro area. The dates will be posted on the home page Calendar or phone MetroCall at 311 or 574.5000.

The drop off will accept bulky junk items such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, etc. Metal items are separated and recycled, and FreonĀ® is properly removed from appliances.

The drop-off will not accept:

  • Tires
  • Propane Cylinders
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Liquids
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Computer Monitors
  • Yard Waste

Other Options
Citizens may also hire private firms to remove junk and trash items.  These businesses may be found in the Yellow Pages under Garbage and Rubbish Removal.  Junk items can also be taken to a private landfill or transfer station for disposal.
