Motorists...
- Pay attention. Pedestrians and cyclists can be anywhere, anytime and hard to see.
- Slow down at intersections and crosswalks (even if it’s not marked); be prepared to stop.
- Never overtake or pass vehicles that are stopped for pedestrians and cyclists.
Pedestrians...
- Be predictable. Stay off freeways and use sidewalks where provided and always cross or enter streets where it’s legal to do so; understand and follow all traffic signals.
- Where no sidewalks are provided, it’s usually safer to walk facing the road traffic.
- Be visible at night. Dress in light colors and wear reflective clothing; carry a flashlight.
