Center for Digital Government ranks Louisville ahead of New York, Washington

Louisville Metro Government placed 3rd in the 9^th annual Digital Cities Survey, which looks at how municipalities incorporate information technology into operations which better serve citizens engaging with local government. The survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government, ranked Louisville third among U.S. cities with populations of 250,000 people or more.

“We’ve been working to keep our technology on the cutting edge and providing great service with the click of a button,” Mayor Jerry Abramson said.”That commitment has earned us national recognition, ahead of cities such as Houston, New York and Washington, D.C.”

“The survey clearly shows that cities place a high value on positive experiences for their constituents when using government services. These winners are at the leading edge of the future in digital advances for citizens,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive director for the Center for Digital Government.

Louisvill Metro's website, www.LouisvilleKy.gov, was part of the survey.  It was also ranked 3rd earlier this year in the Best of the Web, a survey that looks specifically at city websites and how they serve local residents.  The site allows residents to, among other things, pay a parking ticket, register pets, access police reports and track federal stimulus spending.

The top 10 cities in the Digital Cities Survey, which include several ties, are:

1) Corpus Christi, Texas

2) Miami & Tampa

3) Louisville & Aurora, Colorado

4) Tucson, Arizona

5) Riverside, California

6) Mesa, Arizona & Virginia Beach, Virginia

7) Chandler, Arizona & Kansas City, Missouri

8) Honolulu

9) New York City

10) Houston, San Antonio & Washington D.C.
