As with any repository of local government records, time and patience are essential to successful research at Louisville Metro Archives. Due to the nature of Louisville's collection of merged government records, it often is necessary for researchers to review various indexes and records in microfilm format.

Archival staff are available to help begin research; however, they cannot perform research for visitors. Feel free to ask archival staff about our records, indexes, or microfilm equipment. For additional research services, please visit the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, Research Services and Professional Researchers List.

Registration and Fees
There is no fee to visit Louisville Metro Archives, and no appointment is necessary. Please see the Contact Metro Archives page for location and hours.

For security purposes, the use of outside storage media (CDs, DVDs, thumb drives) is not allowed at the public computers. However, blank CDs are available for purchase at $0.50 per disc to copy images from the microfilm reader-printers.

Paper duplication fees include $0.25 per microfilm copy and $0.10 per photocopy. All copies may be purchased at the end of a visit. The copiers are not coin or card operated.
