Metro Animal Services Announces Upcoming Rabies Clinics

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is teaming up with the Lyndon Fire Department to help more people successfully kick the tobacco habit. Lyndon Fire is the first local fire department to facilitate the Cooper Clayton smoking cessation class series. The class begins on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lyndon Firehouse located at 8126 New Lagrange Rd. The series uses the Cooper/Clayton method to stop smoking, a 13 week program that includes weekly support group meetings combined with the use of nicotine replacement products such as patches and gum. Louisville Water’s Research Benefits National Water Quality Efforts

Research conducted in 2011 by Louisville Water scientists is drawing national attention as the company’s discoveries reduce hexavalent chromium (Cr6) to trace amounts, less than 0.1 part per billion. While the Total Chromium levels in Louisville’s drinking water have always been 90% below the federal regulatory level, there are currently no standards for Cr6. Chromium is naturally occurring and exists in two forms: chromium 3 and chromium 6. Chromium 3 is important for balanced health. Studies have shown Cr6 can be carcinogenic if inhaled. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is awaiting scientific-based studies to see at what level, if any, Cr6 poses a health concern if ingested. Full Story

I-64 Ramp from Story Avenue to be closed temporarily

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will close temporarily the entrance ramp from Story Avenue to westbound Interstate 64, beginning Monday, Jan. 9, in an effort to reduce traffic crashes. After the closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge, the exit ramp from westbound I-64 to I-65 was closed to improve traffic flow where these two routes merge with Interstate 71. As a result, the free-flow traffic condition from Story Avenue to I-64 was changed to a short merge condition. To help with traffic control, KYTC installed first a yield sign and subsequently a stop sign at the top of the ramp. Full Story
