Detention is not a place, but a continuum of services aimed at providing public safety and accountability to Louisville citizens. The Department of Community Based Services provides a variety of community based court support services to assist the courts and juvenile justice system in delivering the highest quality of supervision for youth while they await disposition of their court cases.
The Court Process Unit serves summons, subpoenas, custody orders and warrants issued from the Juvenile Division of Jefferson District Court and the Family Court Division of Kentucky Circuit Court.
Court Liaison services are provided to the Juvenile Division of Jefferson District Court and the Family Court Division of Kentucky Circuit Court. Staff serve as liaison to the courts, schools and other agencies to determine appropriate program placement or referral when youth do not meet secure detention criteria.
Alternative Placement Services is a 24-hour staff-secure emergency shelter for status and low level offenders who do not meet criteria for secure detention.
The Home Incarceration Program provides electronic surveillance, monitoring and home supervision for youth who are determined by the Court to not require secure detention.
The Home Supervision Program is the least restrictive option in the detention continuum and supervises youth in their homes, pending court disposition, and serves as an alternative to secure custody.
